Hello Portage County residents! I’m Mike Tinlin and would like to serve YOU as your Portage County Commissioner! I’d like to let you know a little about me. Knowledge and education is the key to a peaceful and happy community. I was born and raised in Garrettsville and life long resident of Portage County, Ohio.
I have been married to my beautiful wife Sue, for 40 years. We have 3 grown children and 7 beautiful grandchildren. Portage County has been home my entire life and I know I can serve you well as your Portage County Commissioner.
I began my public service career at the tender age of 16. I became the youngest sworn Deputy Sheriff in the United States right here in Portage County.
I started my Law Enforcement career at 16 with the Portage County Sheriff Department and was appointed Patrol Commander at 21. I was also a Fire Fighter and Owner/Operator of Community Ambulance Service.
My career then took me to Hudson where I held the rank of Lieutenant, Captain and Asst. Administrator to the Chief.
I ended my law enforcement career as Chief of Police for the City of Aurora where I also served as a part-time Firefighter. I was also a Councilman for the City of Streetsboro, heading the committee to build the new Police Station.
MY SERVICE TO COMMUNITY
Member of the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, FOP Lodge 70, FBI National Academy Association of Ohio, American Board for Certification in Homeland Security and The Church in Aurora where I have served as Deacon.
MY EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
Graduated from James A Garfield, The Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy and The Ohio Firefighter Academy. I also graduated from The FBI National Academy Class 205, where I studied Media Relations, Public Communication, Emergency Management and Crisis Intervention, Government Budgeting, Purchasing and Finance in association with The University of Virginia.
